Starry Night Embroidery Hoop Frame

Foi com muita alegria que recebi a notícia de uma amiga que estava de esperanças de um menino e que se iria chamar Santiago. Quando soube desta novidade maravilhosa, deixei imediatamente a organização do atelier de lado e, inspirada pelo lindo nome do bebé e pelas cores do seu enxoval, decidi criar uma moldura com o nome do menino a condizer.

Para a concepção da moldura, usei um bastidor branco em borracha/plástico que já tinha no atelier e um tecido de algodão às riscas azuis e brancas para o fundo. Como tinha andado a organizar a minha colecção de botões dias antes de receber a notícia, lembrei-me de umas estrelinhas muito fofinhas que seriam perfeitas para compor a ideia que tive: uma nuvem com o nome do bebé.

Imprimi o molde da nuvem e passei-o com caneta no avesso de folha de feltro branca com glitter. Depois de recortar o feltro, ao computador, escrevi o nome Santiago num editor de texto e imprimi em papel vegetal. Prendi o papel com alfinetes na zona central da nuvem, funcionando assim como guia para bordar o nome com linha mouliné em verde pastel. E, em vez de bordar o ponto da letra I, costurei um botão mini estrela exactamente do mesmo tom da linha.

Seguidamente, costurei à mão o feltro ao tecido com o ponto caseado e linha mouliné branca. Antes de fechar completamente a costura, coloquei enchimento para dar relevo à nuvem e destaque ao nome bordado. Por fim, colei um laçarote azul de cetim e costurei os botões estrela brancos no tecido para dar mais charme.

Acrescentei ainda uma fitinha azul com laçarote para se poder pendurar o quadro na parede, no berço ou na porta da maternidade, por exemplo. Procurei dar um melhor acabamento à parte detrás do bastidor com entretela e feltro, mas pode ser feito também com tecido e cartão.

It was with great joy that I received the news that a friend was pregnant and was going to have a boy. His name will be Santiago. When I heard this wonderful news, I immediately put the organization of the craft room aside and, inspired by the beautiful name of the baby and the colors of his complete layette, I decided to create an embroidery hoop frame with the baby boy's name to match.

For the design of the frame, I used a white rubber/plastic embroidery hoop and a cotton fabric with blue and white stripes for the background. As I had been organizing my buttons collection days before receiving the news, I remembered of loveable stars that would be perfect for composing the idea I had in mind: a cloud with the baby's name.

I printed the cloud template and with a pen I traced it on the back of the white felt sheet with glitter. After trimming the felt, at the computer, I wrote Santiago's name in a text editor and printed it on vellum. I held the paper with pins in the central part of the cloud, thus serving as a guide to embroider the name with pastel green embroidery threads. Instead of embroidering the letter I dot, I sewed a mini star button of the exactly same tone of the thread.

Then hand sewed the felt to the fabric with blanket stitch and white embroidery thread. Before completely close the seam, I put filling to give relief to the cloud and to highlight the embroidered name. Finally, I glued a blue satin bow tie and sewed the white star buttons on fabric to give it more charm.

I even added a ribbon with blue bow tie to be able to hang the embroidery hoop on the wall, in the crib or on maternity door, for example. I tried to give a better finish to the back of the hoop with stabilizer and felt, but it can also be done with fabric and thick card.
